Hello beginner string families!

The Stringlings are a group of beginning string students ages 3-10, who gather for a short-term educational projects. They are meant to encourage the pursuit of string instruments in young children in the city. Our current project: to play in the TBSO’s Holiday Pops on December 17, 2022.

Who:violin and cello students of Thunder Bay and area, ages 3-10. Students from any studio in Thunder Bay are welcome.

What: we’re playing an arrangement of the I Have a Little Dreidel with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. There is a part for more advanced players with fingers, and an open D part for students who have begun to play in the last year. Music and instructional videos are linked below.

  1. Sunday, December 4 — 1:00-1:45 pm — 31 Regent St.
  2. Thursday, December 8 — 5:15-6:00 pm — Trinity United Church
  3. Saturday, December 10 —10:00-10:45 am — 31 Regent St.
  4. Monday, December 12 — 6:00-6:45 pm — Trinity United Church
  5. Thursday, December 15 — 5:15-6:00 pm — Trinity United Church *required
  6. Saturday, December 17 — 9:40-10:20 am — TBCA [DRESS REHEARSAL 10 am] *required
  7. Saturday, December 17 — 6:30-7:15 pm — TBCA [CONCERT 7 pm] *required

*Children need to attend events marked required.

Concert Logistics
Dress: anything festive!
Drop off: at the stage back door of TBCA. There will be a person there to greet the children and bring them to their warm-up room. Parents are discouraged from going backstage.
Supervision: there will be supervisors backstage with the children
Pickup: please pick up your child at the Stage Door of the TBCA
Joining adults at the concert: if you are at the concert that evening and would like your child to join you in the audience, children can be collected at intermission for the stage door desk.

Registration
Please fill out the registration form at tbmusic.ca/stringlings. Please make sure you provide an active email address, as additional rehearsal and concert info will be provided periodically.
Participation is free for members of the Thunder Bay Conservatory of Music. To become a member, please complete the membership form at tbmusic.ca/members and pay the annual membership fee of $10.

Volunteers
If you would like to volunteer as a backstage supervisor, let us know.

Buying Tickets
Tickets for kids and adults are available at tbso.ca. Unfortunately the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium has decided to switch their platform to Ticketmaster, which apart from crashing due to Taylor Swift ticket sales, charges obscene additional fees.
Adults $50 + $11 in Ticketmaster fees and Taxes
Kids $30 + $7 in Ticketmaster fees and Taxes
Ticketmaster Order Processing Fee $6

- Trinity United Church: 30 Algoma St South. Enter through the back gym doors on Park St.
- TBCA: 1 Paul Shaffer Drive. Children enter through the Stage Door
