Student Recitals: Recitals have continued on Zoom throughout this year and a bit of pandemic lockdowns. Recitals are open to all students of music in the Thunder Bay area – all instruments, all levels, all ages! Gain valuable performing experience while getting to know other fledgling musicians. To find out more or to register for a recital, please contact us.

Summer Strings: Summer Strings is back this August, in a brand-new COVID-safe format. Outdoor, half-day socially-distanced programs are planned for all levels and ages, over a two week period. In case of inclement weather, an event tent will provide shelter from rain while remaining open to the air on one or more sides. Social mingling will unfortunately still not be safe, so social interactions will only occur within supervised, scheduled rehearsals or lessons. Only one group will be on site at a time, and no one will stay through lunch. Older students, including adults, will have opportunities to perform in chamber concert settings. The Chamber Music Festival will be extended to four concerts, scheduled for each Friday in August.

Choir and Community Orchestra: Have been put on hold by the pandemic, as ongoing programmes. However, special projects have continued to give both singers and instrumentalists the occasional opportunity to be part of a digitally-assembled performance, using a process developed in response to the pandemic shutdowns. These projectes have been exciting and well-received.

Group Class for beginners has not proved effective using Zoom, but this programme will resume once health authorities tell us it’s safe.

Support Us

There is a need for high-level summer music programming in Thunder Bay. Serious music students need to keep their skill sharp, and continue to take lessons through the summer months, often travelling to far-away places like Domaine Forget in Charlevoix, Quebec, or the Banff Centre in Alberta for much-needed training with prestigious guest teachers. But the travel, accommodation, and fees of these summer festivals are out of reach for many families.

Your donation can help support the flights and fees of our guest string quartet, to support us in bringing a high-level summer string festival right here where the students need it. For more information, or to make a donation, please have a look at our donation letter.
